Transform of Kaolinite in Iraqi Kaolin Clay to Halloysite by Intercalation Reaction

چکیده
The kaolinite of the Duikhala Deposite in Iraqi Western Desert underwent intercalation with potassium acetate (KAc) and was subsequently washing water several times. More than 70% achieved checked using X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique by observing a decrease peak intensity 7.2 Å appearance at 14 after two days intercalation. surface area cation exchange capacity were increased treated sample compared to untreated one. Transmission electron microscopy images kaolinite, 35 cycles repeated washing, showed that lamellar wrapped along main crystal directions transformed into nanotube shape halloysite mineral.

Fourier Transform R a M a N Spectroscopy of Kaolinite, Dickite a N D Halloysite
-The vibrational modes of clay minerals are uniquely accessible to FT Raman spectroscopy, but this potentially powerful technique has found limited application to the study of clay mineral structure. Raman spectra in the 50 to 3800 cm-t region were obtained for a number of kandite clays. The kandite clay minerals are characterised by relatively intense bands centred at 142.7 cm -I for kaolinite...

-Motion of the guest molecules in kaolinite/dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) intercalation compounds A12Si2Os(OH)4.(CH3)2SO has been studied by means of solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) in the temperature range between 300 and 380 K, which is just below the evolution temperature. The I3C magic angle spinning (MAS) NMR spectra show 2 inequivalent methyl carbons: 1 methyl carbon is keyed in ...
متن کاملNear-infrared Reflectance Spectra of Mixtures of Kaolin-group Minerals: Use in Clay Mineral Studies
-Near-infrared (NIR) reflectance spectra for mixtures of ordered kaolinite and ordered dickite have been found to simulate the spectral response of disordered kaolinite. The amount of octahedral vacancy disorder in nine disordered kaolinite samples was estimated by comparing the sample spectra to the spectra of reference mixtures. The resulting estimates are consistent with previously published...
متن کاملReaction Pathways of Clay Minerals in Tropical Soils: Insights from Kaolinite-smectite Synthesis Experiments
Pedogenic smectite from a young (Holocene) tropical soil was reacted in Al-rich solution at 150oC for a range of reaction times (3 to 120 days) in order to study mechanisms and rates associated with the transformation of smectite to kaolinite via interstratified kaolinite-smectite (K-S). As has been observed in tropical soils, the overall reaction rate is logarithmic, with rapid initial transfo...
متن کاملHalloysite clay nanotubes for resveratrol delivery to cancer cells.
Halloysite is natural aluminosilicate clay with hollow tubular structure which allows loading with low soluble drugs using their saturated solutions in organic solvents. Resveratrol, a polyphenol known for having antioxidant and antineoplastic properties, is loaded inside these clay nanotubes lumens. Release time of 48 h is demonstrated. Spectroscopic and ζ-potential measurements are used to st...
